Happy 75th Birthday GG!

Hope you all had a nice long holiday weekend. Or, a nice short one if you aren't in the US.

On Sunday,  San Francisco celebrated the 75th birthday of its iconic and  beautiful Golden Gate Bridge. Wish my grandparents were here to tell me what they did on that opening day in 1937.

I didn't have the opportunity to participate in the birthday festivities, but tens of thousands of people did!

I'll never tire of this red Deco masterpiece. I still gasp while driving over it.

Fogged in or clear, the Golden Gate Bridge remains in my heart.

Happy Birthday!

My Latest Aquisition

I haven't purchased anything new for my home in a long time. I was THRILLED to find this stunning 19th century HUGE French shoe store sign!

It is handpainted on canvas with gilt lettering attached to heavy wood. It's huge, measuring over 4 feet wide...

Can you imagine this hanging in front of a shop right near the Paris Nord Station?

The sign is so detailed that it even has fabric trim...

and, it's signed!

My husband isn't too happy that the fleur de lis mirror in the guest room has been replaced by this. He likes using the mirror (ha ha). The mirror will be available for sale in June.

Bonjour!

Did you ever see "What a Way to Go" with Shirley MacLaine? I haven't seen it yet but loving these pink images!!

Have a great day!

Now, This is Splendor!

Happy Monday! Hope you had a lovely weekend.

I just stumbled upon this 16th century dog kennel on Pinterest. I gasped when I saw it. It's on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Can you imagine your pooch resting in this? Oh my. Of course, it's French--the maker, Jean-Baptiste-Claude SenĂ©  (1748–1803). Wish little Vito had one. Did I mention that fits in perfect with our decor???

No More Tears...

Today when I heard the news of Donna Summer's passing, I was terribly saddened. I was one of those 70s teens that played her albums over and over again until they warped. On high school Grad Night (oh, so many decades ago), our last dance was "Last Dance." I'm sure many of you have fond memories of Ms. Summer linked to your childhood.

As I was driving down the freeway, one of the radio stations was playing her song list. I started to cry. Having lost my grandmother less than two years, ago, then my mom last year, I felt as though my whole childhood is passing away. Perhaps it is.

I got home and cranked up the duet with Barbra Streisand and Donna singing "No More Tears," and started happily singing.

Rest in Peace Donna...thanks for the memories. It may be your "last dance," but your music will live on in our hearts forever! No More Tears...

Sorry, Box Not Included.

I always feel badly when I have to put that disclaimer in my jewelry description.

You see, these lovely antique ring boxes that we use for photo purposes are incredibly rare. Most antique dealers won't ever sell theirs. If you happen to find one for sale, they could cost up to $50.  I've paid  over $30 for some of mine.

I've collected mine over the years and use them for display. The good news...if you purchase a piece of jewelry from Paris Hotel Boutique, you do receive a box, just not an antique box!

The Candy Store goes Nationwide!

The Candy Store, San Francisco
I remember when The Candy Store in San Francisco opened many years back. I saw their cute sign and had to pop in. The co-owner, Diane, greeted me with a big smile and was happy to let me sift through every kind of candy. I was thrilled to find the long French marshmallow sticks in lavender that I'd been searching for. Yum!

Now they're not just pleasing us San Franciscans, but part of The Shops of Target -- specialty boutiques from around the country with limited collections, available at Target beginning today.

The Candy Store's Target collection

Owner Diane Campbell with Martha Stewart at launch party--how exciting!

This was the first time that I was actually was excited about Target launching new lines. Why? Because a large chain decided to work with boutiques. Small independent ones. And boutiques need more help than ever right now. The available collections were co-created by the boutiques and Target, capturing each shop's unique aesthetic and personality.

To see all of the participating shops click here. Also, big congrats to the Diane and the Candy Store! You are so deserving of this recognition!
