Paris c. 1900 in Color!

Amazing. Although some of these photos may look modern-day, they are actually photographs taken in the beginning of the 20th century that have been colored.

All the images shown below were taken using Autochrome Lumière technology. It's an early color photography process, patented in 1903 and invented by the famous French Auguste and Louis Lumière, populary known as Lumière Brothers. They were the earliest filmmakers in history.

Sit back and enjoy!

Happy Monday + Heads Up!

Tomorrow is new arrival day! There's something for everyone! I'm thrilled to say that
I'm offering a special Art Nouveau collection.

My great uncle Sanford and his wife Helen were avid collectors of Art Nouveau, William Morris (the founder of the Arts & Crafts movement), rare books and more. Their William Morris collection was sold to the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical. You can read more about the Bergers here

I was fortunate to be offered some of Helens' Art Nouveau jewelry collection. I am selling some very special pieces. Of course, I  had to keep some pieces for myself.

Visit Paris Hotel Boutique tomorrow at 8:00 am PST/11:00 am EST for all of our new arrivals.

Have a great week ahead!

Gone, But Not Forgotten...

How many of you long for the old days of divine, ornate architecture?

The grand Fox Theatre was a 4,651 seat movie palace located at 1350 Market Street in San Francisco. The theater was designed by the noted theater architect, Thomas W. Lamb. It was built by movie mogul William Fox of Fox Film Corporation to be the last word in movie palaces, with a proposed 1,000-room luxury hotel attached to the site. The hotel never got off the ground, but the theater opened on June 28, 1929 with the premiere of Behind That Curtain (1929), starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan.

A gilded rococo lobby featuring a grand staircase greeted visitors to the Fox; lavish stage shows, a full orchestra and a 4,000-pipe Wurlitzer organ counted among its amenities. Opened in 1929, the theater operated until 1963 when it was sadly closed and demolished.

I have some family members that still remember that theatre. Too bad I was 3 years old when it was demolished. I just gush at these old images...

Let's go to the theatre...take a stroll through...

Diamond Horseshoe Promenade, oh my...

Note the shell-shaped seats in the Women's Cosmetic Lounge...

Yes, We Buy Estates!

Hope 2013 is off to a great start for you!

Over the years many of you have asked where we get our merchandise. Everywhere from estate sales and flea markets to antique shows and travel, always on the hunt. One of the sources is from referrals and private estates. My two recent acquisitions came from wonderful estates. I can't wait to share them with you.

So, if there is ever one or more items you'd like to sell that look "Parishotelboutique-ish", don't hesitate to contact me or shoot me some photos. I'm a picky buyer, but even if I don't purchase, I can always try and point you in the right direction.

Have a wonderful week!
